Abstract

Hypertension remains one of the most prevalent non-communicable diseases and continues to pose a major public health challenge in urban areas, including Makassar City. Limited public knowledge and negative attitudes toward hypertension prevention may influence healthy lifestyle behaviors and increase the risk of hypertension among adults. This study aims to analyze the relationship between knowledge and attitudes toward hypertension prevention behavior among adults in Makassar City. The study employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 150 respondents selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis was conducted using the chi-square test to determine the relationship between research variables. The findings indicate that most respondents had good levels of knowledge and positive attitudes regarding hypertension prevention. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between knowledge and hypertension prevention behavior, as well as between attitudes and hypertension prevention behavior. This study argues that knowledge and attitudes are important determinants in shaping preventive health behavior related to hypertension. The findings contribute to strengthening promotive and preventive approaches in public health policies through health education enhancement and increased public awareness regarding healthy lifestyles.
