Contemporary hadith studies face an epistemological problem because isnad criticism, although essential as a foundation for narrational verification, is not always sufficient to explain tensions between hadith texts, the Qur’anic universal principles, rationality, and social change. This study formulates an integrative-multidimensional hermeneutic framework for matn criticism by combining transmission verification, linguistic analysis, historical reconstruction, asbāb al-wurūd, maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, and socio-contextual reading. The method is qualitative-descriptive and based on a literature review of classical and contemporary works on isnad criticism, matn criticism, and hadith interpretation theory. The findings indicate that matn criticism should move beyond narrational confirmation toward proportional substantive testing. Problematic hadith reports can be understood through the distinction between temporal-local elements and universal ethical values, giving a more measured basis for interpreting gender-related hadith, political authority, and theological symbols. The study concludes that integrative-multidimensional hermeneutics offers a methodological middle path between rigid literalism and overly expansive historical deconstruction.
