Abstract

This study analyzes the influence of inflation and interest rates on public purchasing power in the retail sector in Mataram City from the perspective of economics and public policy. The research is motivated by increasing economic pressure caused by rising prices and interest rate adjustments that affect consumer behavior and regional trade activities. The objective of this study is to examine the impact of inflation and interest rates on purchasing power and their implications for the local retail sector. This research employs a quantitative method with an empirical approach through questionnaires distributed to 100 respondents and interviews with retail business actors in Mataram City. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to measure the relationship among research variables. The findings indicate that inflation and interest rates have a negative and significant effect on public purchasing power. Inflation is identified as the dominant factor causing a decline in household consumption, while rising interest rates affect credit-based purchases in the retail sector. This study argues that monetary policy directly influences regional economic stability, thereby requiring more responsive and equitable economic policies. The study contributes to the development of socio-legal scholarship concerning the relationship between monetary policy, public welfare protection, and regional trade stability.
