The phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) has increased significantly among Generation Z alongside the growing use of short-video-based social media, particularly Instagram Reels. This condition affects not only digital entertainment consumption patterns but also behavioral shifts in accessing online religious content. This study aims to analyze how FoMO shapes the consumption behavior of digital religious content among Generation Z Instagram Reels users and its implications for digital religiosity practices. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using literature review and conceptual analysis methods based on recent studies related to FoMO, social media, digital religiosity, and Generation Z communication behavior. The findings indicate that Instagram Reels algorithms encourage emotional engagement and social validation needs that reinforce FoMO tendencies in religious content consumption. Short-form preaching content, viral religious lectures, and popular religious symbols have become part of a participatory digital culture influencing Generation Z’s religious identity formation. This study finds that digital religious FoMO is shaped not only by spiritual needs but also by digital social pressure and symbolic existence in social media spaces. This article contributes to the development of Islamic law and digital communication studies by explaining the transformation of Generation Z religious practices within algorithm-driven social media ecosystems.
